Adrien said: “I’m delighted to have joined the Stellar Group who have so much expertise, knowledge and experience of the industry. Their outstanding record of managing top sporting talent is exceptional and I am very excited about our future together.”
Jonathan Barnett, Chairman of the Stellar Group said: “We are extremely proud to be working with a player of Adrien’s calibre, he enhances our ever expanding global client roster and I look forward to the next phase of his career. He’s a European Champion, a club captain and above all a fantastic footballer.”
Born in France to a Portuguese family, Adrien began his career with Bordeaux, before moving to the northern Portuguese town of Arcos de Valdevez. It was there, at Paço, that he was spotted by Sporting’s scouting department at the young age of 12.
He won the regional and national championships for every age group with Sporting’s youth team. He has almost always featured in the midfield, sometimes playing a more offensive role than he occupies today and is known for his ability to find the back of the net from range.
He spent two seasons out on loan with Maccabi Haifa and Académica, where he developed as a player that we know today. He actually won the Portuguese Cup while at Académia ironically beating Sporting in the final. His return to Alvalade came in 2012/13, where he has gone about earning an undisputable place through his hard work and goal tally (10 in 2014/15). Also winning the Portuguese Cup with Sporting in 2014/15, he has since become captain of Sporting.
At the 2016 European Championships in France, Adrien made four starts for his country. He played a key role in helping Portugal overcome the hosts France in the final, deservedly lifting the prestigious trophy with his teammates and earning Portugal their very first success on the world stage.
