03 Oct Grant Holloway thanks ‘inner circle’ after winning world gold
Stellar star Grant Holloway has won gold in his first appearance at a world championship.
The 21-year-old took the 110-meter hurdles title with a time of 13:10, beating former world and current Olympic champion Omar McLeod (who was later disqualified) and Sergey Shubenkov of Russia, who won silver.
After the race, Grant, who signed with Stellar Athletics in June after a glittering college athletics career, said he couldn’t have won gold without the support of his “inner circle”.
“I shouldn’t be holding up this flag. I shouldn’t be holding up this medal. It all goes to my inner circle for this meet,” he said.
He added: “My goal was to get out and stay out and that was exactly what I did. I was focused on my barriers and composed my nerves and I’m now world champion… for the first time!”
