Corey Baird named Rookie of the Year

Stellar USA star Corey Baird has been named as MLS Rookie of the Year.

The 22-year-old Real Salt Lake forward from Stanford University won the AT&T MLS award after forcing his way into the first team this season and claiming eight goals and five assists. Originally slated to be a reserve, Corey took advantage of every opportunity and started 21 matches.

The annual award is made following a poll of Major League Soccer players and soccer journalists. The results showed Corey as clear winner with more than 43% of the vote.

This is the second year in a row that a Stellar USA client has topped the charts, following on from Atlanta United’s Julian Gressel’s win last year. Damani Ralph, Stellar USA’s Vice-President, is also a former award winner.

Stellar USA President Patrick McCabe said: “This is terrific recognition for Corey, who has made an unbelievable start to his professional career in MLS. The fact that he won so many votes shows what his fellow players and the media think of him.

“Following on from Julian winning last year, it shows once again that the brightest MLS stars are signing with Stellar USA and that the future is very bright indeed. We will be looking for another strong season from Corey in 2019. ”
