02 Jun Cup-winner Rob Holding gives message to young players
When Rob Holding held the FA Cup aloft at Wembley it was a realisation of a dream held since childhood.
The 21-year-old, who started his football career aged just seven when he joined up with Bolton Wanderers, is now establishing himself at Arsenal as one of the best centre-halves in the country but he is still very much a player with his feet on the ground – despite fans comparing him with Italian legend Fabio Cannavaro among others.
“When I was growing up, like any kid, I dreamt of playing for a top club and lifting a trophy but to actually achieve that felt surreal and took a few days to actually sink in,” he said.
“My aim now keep working hard at my game and keep improving. I’m enjoying playing with England under 21s and representing my country. The fans have been great and hearing them chant your name fills you with confidence.”
Rob has been a model professional since his early days. With the support of his family and Stellar Group he has always knew he could make it to the top of the game and the advice he has for young players is to work hard, enjoy your game and never give up.
“You need to believe in yourself and take every day as comes and constantly push yourself to get to the next level and get into the right place where you are playing games and performing at your best,” he said.
“My dad kept me on track and inside all I wanted to do was play football, every chance I got.”
